Queens, NY — An 18-year-old man was tragically killed Monday morning after being struck by a train while attempting to flee a fight on the platform of the Elmhurst Avenue subway station in Queens. The incident, which occurred around 11 a.m., led to significant disruptions in subway service during the Monday evening rush hour.
According to law enforcement, the altercation between the 18-year-old and a 19-year-old man escalated on the platform, prompting the younger man to flee onto the tracks. As he ran into the tunnel, he reportedly slipped and fell on the tracks, where he was fatally struck by a Jamaica-bound F train.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 18-year-old lying unconscious and unresponsive on the tracks between the Elmhurst Avenue and Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue stations. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
The 19-year-old involved in the fight was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with minor injuries. As of Monday night, no charges had been filed, and police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
The tragic event caused severe disruptions to E, F, M, and R train services in both directions throughout the afternoon, as emergency teams responded to the scene and conducted their investigation. Commuters faced significant delays, and police officers, along with MTA personnel, were stationed at affected locations to assist and redirect passengers during the busy evening commute.
