The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received reports of the shootings around 11:30 p.m. on the 100 block of 234th Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered one victim, later identified by family members as 44-year-old Richard Mata. The second victim, an 18-year-old whose identity has not yet been released, was found nearby after attempting to drive away from the scene but crashing his vehicle a block east of 234th Street.
Carson, CA – Tragedy struck in Carson late Saturday night as two men were found dead from gunshot wounds on the same street, just a block apart, in what authorities believe may be related shootings.
Investigators suspect that the shootings could be linked and may involve members of rival gangs. One individual, believed to have been present at the time of the shooting, has been detained by authorities for questioning.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. No information regarding suspects has been released at this time.
