PATERSON, NJ – Authorities in New Jersey are actively searching for a suspect involved in the brutal stabbing of a 4-year-old girl, Amber, in her Paterson home. The young victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds, remains in stable condition at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where she is being treated for injuries to her lung, liver, and diaphragm, according to family members.
The horrifying incident occurred just after 4 p.m. on Friday, during what police describe as a domestic dispute. Officers arrived at the scene to find the child critically injured. Amber’s father, Faherem LaSane, expressed his shock and devastation, describing his daughter as a joyful child with a big smile and a hearty appetite.
LaSane, who rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news, shared that despite her severe injuries, Amber has been responsive, bringing a glimmer of hope to her family. “She opened her eyes and made eye contact when she heard my voice,” LaSane told WABC, visibly emotional outside the hospital.
Authorities have yet to officially identify the suspect, but Paterson council member Luis Velez indicated that police are searching for the child’s aunt, who was reportedly babysitting Amber at the time of the attack. Amber’s mother was at home caring for another child when the incident took place.
A neighbor, Keema James, recounted the terrifying moment when she saw Amber’s mother emerge from the home covered in blood, carrying her injured daughter. “She had a big gash on her forehead and had her wrapped up,” James recalled in an interview with WABC.
The community is in shock, and the search for the suspect continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities as the investigation remains ongoing.
