India Prepares for 5G/6G Technology: Hosts Hackathon and WTSA24 Outreach Sessions
New Delhi, July 5 (FN Bureau) — India is gearing up to lead the charge into the next era of telecommunications with the upcoming “5G/6G and Emerging Technologies Hackathon” scheduled for September. This initiative, alongside the “WTSA24 (World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly) Outreach Sessions,” aims to gather innovators, industry leaders, and academics to explore the forefront of telecom advancements, as per an official statement.
What is WTSA24?
The WTSA24 is a significant global event held once every four years, governing the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) Standardisation Sector (ITU-T). Organized by the United Nations system, it plays a crucial role in establishing global telecommunication standards, making India’s hosting of WTSA24 a landmark event.
Hackathon and Innovation
The hackathon, a precursor to WTSA24, will provide a platform for developers to showcase innovative solutions. Set to take place across dedicated 5G labs in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru over 30 hours, the event will encourage collaboration and creativity among participants. It will focus on pushing the boundaries of technologies such as 5G and 6G, aiming to highlight India’s prowess in telecommunications innovation.
IMC 2024 and Beyond
In conjunction with these efforts, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will also organize the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC 2024) from October 15 to 19, 2024. This premier technology forum will spotlight Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technology, and Circular Economy, while also showcasing advancements in 5G use-cases, cloud computing, IoT, and more.
The Way Forward
Aligned with Asia’s largest technology forum, the hackathon and WTSA24 outreach sessions will foster an environment of cutting-edge innovation and collaboration. Participants from diverse backgrounds — academia, startups, and industry — will converge to explore and develop pioneering solutions in telecommunications.
The Telecom Center of Excellence (TCoE), through its Request for Proposal (RFP), invites applications to organize the “5G/6G Hackathon” and WTSA24 Awareness Sessions. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to driving forward the global telecom agenda and embracing the transformative potential of 5G and emerging technologies.
Stay tuned as India paves the way for the future of telecommunications through innovation, collaboration, and leadership in 5G/6G technology.
