Atlassian, a leader in software development and collaboration tools, is expanding its reach with a new program aimed at growing startups. The initiative covers products like Jira, Confluence, Loom, Jira Product Discovery, Bitbucket, and Compass.

A Strategic Move to Capture Growing Startups

Once companies begin using productivity tools and issue trackers like Jira, they rarely switch to other platforms. Atlassian’s new program aims to bring startups into its ecosystem early, ensuring they stay as they scale. By providing these essential tools, Atlassian hopes to support startups in managing and scaling their operations efficiently.

Insights from Atlassian CMO

Atlassian’s Chief Marketing Officer, Zeynep Inanoglu Ozdemir, emphasized the mutual benefits of this initiative. Since joining the company last October, she has observed numerous startups evolving into large, mature businesses on Atlassian’s platform.

“It’s clearly a win-win situation,” Ozdemir explained. “We love the idea of removing the burden of work management and project management and scaling that whole process for a company so that they can really focus on their innovation […] So we thought, okay, we’re going to help the startup community to maybe make it easier to get started with that.”

Reaching Beyond Tech Startups

While Atlassian originally made its mark within the tech community, it’s now also targeting non-tech startups, particularly with products like Jira and Confluence. The company’s 2023 acquisition of Loom, an asynchronous video messaging service, further underscores its commitment to supporting diverse business needs. Ozdemir expects a significant number of non-tech companies to benefit from the Atlassian for Startups program.

Partnerships with Accelerators

To bolster this initiative, Atlassian is partnering with several prominent accelerators and their portfolio companies. These include:

  • AWS Activate: Amazon’s program for startups.
  • Accel: A global venture capital firm.
  • Blackbird: An Australian venture capital firm.
  • Menlo Ventures: A major venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley.

Atlassian’s new program is a strategic effort to integrate startups into its ecosystem by offering essential productivity tools from the beginning. With partnerships and a focus on both tech and non-tech startups, Atlassian is poised to support the next generation of growing companies, ensuring they have the tools needed to innovate and scale efficiently.
