Empowering Women in Tech: GirlCode Hackathon 2024
Welcome to the GirlCode Hackathon 2024, a milestone event celebrating a decade of fostering female talent in technology. Spanning across 10 African cities, this year’s hackathon promises to ignite the spirit of innovation among young women, particularly those in universities and colleges.
Event Overview
- Dates: Stage 1 (Presentations): Submission Deadline by 28 June 2024; Stage 2 (Demos): Submission Deadline by 19 July 2024; Stage 3 (Grand Finale): 31 August 2024 – 1 September 2024
- Location: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Accra, Kigali, Lagos, Nairobi, Kampala, Douala, Lusaka
- Eligibility: Open to female participants aged 18 and above with STEM qualifications from South Africa, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia. Projects must be new and not previously submitted.

Project Requirements
- Stage 1 (Presentations): Submit a detailed presentation outlining the problem, solution, and potential impact.
- Stage 2 (Demos): Showcase your project’s functionality through a demo video.
- Stage 3 (Grand Finale): Refine and present your project live for final evaluation.
Prizes and Recognition
- Grand Prize: Laptops and Amazon vouchers worth $75.
- Runner-Up: Laptops and Amazon vouchers worth $50.
- 2nd Runner-Up: Laptops and Amazon vouchers worth $25.
- All Participants: Receive headphones, plus mentorship opportunities from industry leaders.
Judging Criteria
Projects will be evaluated based on innovation, technical execution, impact, presentation quality, feasibility, and scalability.
